I have a prejudice about a lot of modern technology.

That's not to say I don't like gadgets, computers and so on. I had my first computer when I was 8 or so. A Sinclair ZX81. I've always had one or two ever since. I like programming.

But I'm one of those grumpy people who thinks in his darker moments, that the internet (then known in Oz as AARNet) was a lot better before all the idiots started using it.

What makes for joy? A silly question, in a way. You know it when you feel it. As soon as you start anaysing it then you start to be less joyful.

Joy is essentially free - a sense of infinite possibilities; hope, mystery.

I was watching some TV last night.

Most people are quite ugly, one way or the other. When you meet someone beautiful in real life it's unusual.

In Tv-world, ugly people are unusual. So TV-world has a strange, unreal quality to it. Which, given it's fiction, is to be expected!

But there's more to this rather obvious observation than you might think ...
