The Handy Troglodyte Pelican Sentence

Monday, April 25th 2011

A most useful sentence:

It's a disgraceful spectacle; a coterie of troglodyte pelicans regurgitating thoughts on one another.

For instance:

Person A: My God! The government is fucking things up.

You: Indeed, good sir. It's a disgraceful spectacle; a coterie of troglodyte pelicans regurgitating thoughts on one another.

Or ...

Person A: I'm thinking of changing mortgage providers.

You: Careful! It's a disgraceful spectacle; a coterie of troglodyte pelicans regurgitating thoughts on one another.

Or ...

Person A: My boyfriend is really giving my gyp.

You: He's disgraceful spectacle; a bloated troglodyte pelican regurgitating on everybody.

Okay, so that's a bit of jazz version of the original. But still. Case made I think.

The Fun Revolution

Saturday, April 23rd 2011

Dave Meslin had a TED talk back in October 2010 where he showed a slide of a typical piece of government advertising:

He got a big laugh when he said, "Imagine if Nike advertised this way!"

And proposed a better ad from the government:

Tick Tock

Friday, April 22nd 2011

Imagine a ticking clock locked in a cupboard. You can't see it or access it. But you can hear it ticking.

How do you know the clock is ticking?

Because you can hear it tick!

But what if your brain switches off just before each tick and switches back on just after each tick?

And you aren't aware that your mind is switching on and off?

You'd wouldn't hear the tick. Indeed, you would never know about the clock locked away in the cupboard.

If you and the clock remain perfectly in sync in this way, you'd never know the clock was ticking. Indeed, you'd never know the clock was locked in the cupboard.

Say a dimension in the universe ticks, so to speak. And beings in other dimensions are switching on and off, on when there is no tick, off when there is a tick. Those beings in other dimensions would never be aware of the ticking dimension. Let's say those beings are us.

Perhaps there are beings in the ticking dimension. And they are aware of us.

And perhaps they have gigantic, throbbing cycloptic triangular eyes the size of entire galaxies, speak in ancient Aramaic, and go by names such as Grand Lord Visog Nurbo?

Hmm.

Must remove the alarm clock from my bedroom.
