Screamin' Voodoo!

Tuesday, October 11th 2011

Screamin' Jay Hawkins was quite big in the 50s. You might know the song "I Put a Spell on You". Well, he wrote that!

He fought in WW II, Jim Jarmusch suggested he had the ability to make it stop raining, he had run-ins with the mob, and was married 6 times.

A supernatural, mystical magical wizard, with a booming operatic voice ...

That man from Baltimore unsettled me somewhat,

He scrounged his words and spoke in megawatts.

Glorious Rock and Roll Pt 1

Monday, October 10th 2011

Two Bruce live jams on his classic number, "Glory Days".

One, jamming with a Wolfgang Niedecken and his Leopardefellband in 1995:

Another on David Letterman in 1993:

Bruce knows how to rock n roll! I know why they call him the Boss!

Speaking of rock n roll, here's Lemmy on Letterman in 1991, playing the Chuck Berry number "Let It Rock".

Glory!

And how about Keith Moon introducing the magnificent Bachman Turner Overdrive? Why not! Here they play their mind meltingly splendid "Takin Care of Business"?

The bass player, the Turner in Bachman Turner Overdrive always reminds me of Dusty, the bass plauer from ZZ Top.

ZZ Top! Oh yes.

Here's a classic performance, even if it is partly mimed (who cares, right, The Reverend Billy Gibbons and compadres still melt minds).

Pointless trivia: the only member of ZZ Top without a beard is called Frank Beard!

And now for a tragically under appreciated rock n roll outfit playing their stomper "Break Your Heart".

Here's a 1985 take on "Rock and Roll is King", played by Darkcide, a great band originally from Castlemaine.
